NATIONAL COMPETITION

This activity is linked to section 3.17. For lesson guidelines please click here.

The Cricket Foundation and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the world’s most famous cricket club and the owner of Lord’s Cricket Ground, are continuing their partnership formed in 2009. Tens of thousands of children in Chance to shine schools are now introduced to the key MCC Spirit of Cricket messages enshrined in the laws of the game. More information and additional resources are available at www.lords.org/soc

To celebrate this partnership, we have a special MCC Spirit of Cricket competition on Brit Insurance National Cricket Day. We would like your pupils to create a short video to promote the ‘play hard, play fair, have fun’ message of the MCC Spirit of Cricket.

We want you to create a short video – anything from 30 seconds to 3 minutes (maximum) that clearly demonstrates the Spirit of Cricket.

A few ideas to include:

  • A video of moments on Brit Insurance National Cricket Day that capture the ‘play hard, play fair, have fun’ message of MCC Spirit of Cricket
  • A video showing the range of activity undertaken on NCD Interviews or a documentary talking to classmates or teachers about what the Spirit of Cricket means
  • A guide to Spirit of Cricket do-s and don’t-s

A few things to bear in mind:

  • Please ensure you have the consent of those you wish to film
  • You don’t need to have a professional video camera; a camera phone or standard digital camera with motion picture technology will be sufficient
  • If you film on a digital camera please keep the camera one way up as it is not possible to rotate video

Each school must judge their own entries and choose one winner. Please upload the video to youtube (or similar video-sharing site) and send the link and a few words about it to: Rosalie.birch.cricketfoundation@ecb.co.uk
