Introduction 10 minutes
  • As a class hold a quick discussion about healthy and unhealthy foods and meals.
  • Discuss why a cricketer needs to keep to a healthy diet and what this might include.
  • Discuss all of the types of foods we need to create a balanced diet (Vitamins, Fibre, Carbohydrates, Proteins, Minerals & Fats) and why we need a balanced diet. Look at each individual food type and identify why each one is important in its own way.
  • Use the ‘A Balanced diet – Supporting Material' sheet to aid discussion. Identify one missing feature from the diet (water) and how this is equally important.

Main Activity 40 Minutes
  • Open the ‘Who Wants to be a Healthy Centurion Quiz – Activity' and work through the answers as a class or in teams (organisation to be decided by the teacher).
  • Work through the questions and after each answer discuss it as a class.
  • Start back from the beginning when answering incorrectly to reinforce understanding.

Plenary 10 Minutes
  • Move around the class and discuss that quiz and the answers. Get the pupils to list all that they have learnt from the quiz or from the day so far.
