To understand some of the basics of the game of cricket.

Timing

Lesson plan and supporting resources

Introduction 15 minutes
  • Discuss the aims of the game and basic rules of the game of cricket.
  • Select a couple of pupils to try to explain the game to the rest of the class, making it as simple as possible and then moving to a few more of the complicated and unknown rules.
  • Check understanding of the rest of the class.

 

Main Activity 25 Minutes
  • Open the Who Wants to Score a Century quiz in the Activity section and begin the quiz. Alernatively, use the PowerPoint slideshow available in the Downloads section.
  • Use the quiz as a competition between teams or use it as a whole class quiz and discussion of each of the points to help the pupils build up an understanding of the game of cricket.
  • When a question is answered incorrectly, start back to the beginning to reinforce the basics covered so far.

 

Plenary 10 Minutes
  • Move around the class and ask the pupils to tell the rest of the class something that they have learnt about the game of cricket throughout the lesson.
