Timing

Lesson plan and supporting resources

Introduction 20 minutes
  • Explain to the class that many sporting professionals write autobiographies about their careers. Discuss what an autobiography is and carry out shared reading of ‘Writing about a memorable experience in your life so far’ in the Supporting Material section of this module and discuss. Look at the tense and that it is written in 1st person and discuss.
  • Decide on some ideas that the class could use as memorable experiences or moments in their life.
  • The teacher can begin to model writing the beginning of the memorable experience after explaining what the experience is. Begin with the build up and the main event and what happened afterwards or how it has affected them afterwards.

Main Activity 30 Minutes
  • After discussing the text provide the class with the Activity for this module and they must write about an individual moment or experience in their life that is special to them. Encourage those with a sporting interest to think of a sporting moment, but another moment is acceptable for the task.
Plenary 10 Minutes
  • Move around the class and allow pupils to read aloud their memorable experiences.
  • The rest of the class can provide feedback in relation to the tense and style of writing compared to that from Brian Lara which was read at the beginning of the lesson.
