Lesson plan and supporting resources

Introduction 15 minutes
  • Discuss the history of cricket and what the class already know about cricket and anything that has happened in the past. This could be anything from cricket bats, clothing, records or people that played cricket.
  • Read some examples of events from the history of cricket by using the information from the Supporting Material section of this module.
  • Explain that the class will be making a timeline of their own to display in the classroom.

Main Activity 30 Minutes
  •   Provide the pupils with the worksheet in the Supporting Material section of this module and split the dates up between the class. Not all of the dates need to be used, but each child can have a date to represent.
  • Provide the pupils with A4 paper and use in landscape. The top left corner (8cm x 4cm box maybe) can have the date in bubble writing inside and then the rest of the page can be used for the information and pictures to represent the events.

Plenary 15 Minutes
  • Move around the class and allow pupils to show their A4 presentations of the specific date they have chosen. See if the rest of the class can identify why the date is important.
  • Display the posters in chronological order around the classroom and use for future reference.
