Lesson plan and supporting resources

Introduction 15 minutes
  • Discuss the main countries that compete at cricket and discuss why more countries do not play cricket at a higher level. Possibly talk about the Commonwealth and what this means.
  • Show the class the Cricket Nations World Map found in the Supporting Materials section of this module and identify the countries that are the major playing cricket nations. These countries make up the data creator cards. Explain how they are to play the game and to look out for any interesting or unusual similarities and differences between any of the countries.
Main Activity 30 Minutes
  • Provide the pupils with the 'Data Creator Cards', which will need to have been cut out and made from the Activity section of this module.
  • Play the game by:
  1. Handing out an equal amount of cards to each player and placing face down
  2. First player reads a title and the corresponding figure.
  3. The best figure wins and the player collects each player's cards (draw = the cards go in the middle and can be won with the next card played).
  4. The winner selects the next title.
  5. Continue until one player has all of the cards and is the winner.
Plenary 15 Minutes

Move around the class and ask the children to comment on any interesting or unusual similarities and differences between any of the countries.
